Nelson Search and Rescue Volunteer

ROLE DESCRIPTION – BOOKKEEPER

The Nelson Search and Rescue Society is a non-profit registered charity providing search and rescue services to people in and around Nelson, BC Under the guidance of the Treasurer, the candidate will be responsible for providing bookkeeping and administrative support in order to ensure the successful functioning of the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:
 Handle all accounts receivable including
– Entering all EMBC Task Receivables into Quickbooks as per Manager’s reports.
– Reconciling EMBC deposits to the Task Receivables.
– Reporting on Discrepancies.
 Entering all expense reports and tracking GST into Quickbooks
– Ensuring proper receipts are received and filed.
– Logging additions to inventory as appropriate.
– Generating cheques for the directors to sign and then issue to volunteers / vendors.
 Maintain a filing system for all NSAR Financials.
 Enter all financial transactions in QuickBooks
 Work with the treasurer when it comes time to prepare various reports.
 Monthly bank reconciliation

Skills/Competencies:
 Accounting/Bookkeeping experience required.
 Experience with MS Excel and Quickbooks (or other accounting programs, eg. simplyaccounting,)
 Excellent analytical skills with the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend solutions. If you have experience with online expense report integration with Quickbooks that would be ideal.
 Good interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated high degree of professionalism

Time commitment:
 Hopefully only about 2-4 hours per week. Work is to be done onsite – at the Nelson Search and Rescue office at the North Shore Hall using our computer.
